What is the Seal of Biliteracy?
The New York State Seal of Biliteracy is a formal distinction awarded to graduating high school students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and at least one world language. The purpose of the NYSSB is to:
-
Encourage the study of languages
-
Recognize the value of multilingualism
-
Affirm the importance of cultural understanding
-
Provide students with a competitive advantage in today’s global society
To earn the Seal, students must meet academic requirements in both English and their additional language. This includes successful completion of coursework, language assessments, and a culminating presentation that demonstrates their language abilities and cultural knowledge.
Celebrating Our Global Learners
The accomplishment of these eight USHS students is a powerful example of the importance of language learning and cultural literacy. Their achievement not only reflects personal excellence, but also highlights Union Springs’ commitment to preparing students for success in a diverse and interconnected world.
Congratulations to our bilingual scholars—we’re proud of your hard work, your passion, and your ability to connect across cultures.
