Greetings,

I am Christopher Strapach the new Food Service Manager here at Union Springs Central Schools and I wanted to take a few moments to both introduce myself and walk you through some of my goals for our food service program. I am a Union Springs Alumni myself and grew up here in the village. I went on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America and work and eventually manage some well-known local spots including the Fargo Bar and Grill, 1833 Kitchen and Bar, and Aurora Brewing Company. As some may have seen, we have re-imagined our food service programs here in the Union Springs School district. The cafeteria staff and I are excited to be able to bring some new and different dishes and vegetables to the students’ plates. I am making a commitment to making mostly unprocessed foods using basic ingredients to create great dishes. It is to my excitement to be able to utilize my skills to bring some items or cuisines that students may not have tried before to their plate.

It means a lot to be back here at Union Springs and have the opportunity to share my skills with the community that I grew up with. Thank you for your support as our cafeteria team and I continue working to bring fresh, nutritious and enjoyable food to our students.

Sincerely,

Christopher Strapach

Food Service Manager

Union Springs Central School District believes that one of the most important ways in which we can help our children perform better in the classroom is to provide them with the nutrition necessary for the healthy growth of their minds and bodies. Therefore, we offer well-balanced healthy meals in our schools every day at a minimal cost.

Keeping Kids Healthy

As we comply with the federal Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, we continue to alter menus so that offerings are lower in sodium content. We have also added items sold ala carte under the Smart Snack Standards. These items are restricted in calories, sugar, fat, and sodium, and they also have higher whole grain content.

My School Bucks

In addition to purchasing food with cash each day, students can use a pre-pay system called My School Bucks, which eliminates the need for carrying money. The online payment service provides a quick and easy way to add money to your student’s meal account using a credit/debit card or electronic check.  *Please note, the system DOES NOT disclose whether or not a student receives free or reduced price meals.

Go to www.MySchoolBucks.com to create an account. Upon signing in, parents can see the entire history, including all transactions made by the student. You can also check balances and set up low balances alerts with an online account. For questions about this system, or to find out your child’s balance at any time, call the cafeteria office at (315) 889-4120.

Important Notes

These accounts are pre-pay accounts (debit), not charge accounts. You may add money to your child’s account online anytime at myschoolbucks.com, or you can add money to your child’s account by sending a check to the Union Springs School Lunch Program. Please remember to keep your child's account current.
