USHS Celebrates Academic Excellence at Awards Night

Union Springs High School shined with pride and achievement on Wednesday night, as students, families, and faculty gathered for the annual Academic Awards Night — a celebration of scholarship, character, and student success.
Principal Jason Dentel opened the evening with a warm welcome, praising students for their dedication, growth, and resilience throughout the school year. His remarks set a celebratory tone for the night ahead.
Students were then recognized by department, with teachers from the English, Math, Science, Spanish, Social Studies, and Music Departments presenting awards to those who demonstrated exceptional academic performance and a passion for learning.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of Junior Scholarships by High School Counselor Mrs. Nina Darnell. In a moment of excitement and pride, it was announced that the Class of 2026 had received over $2 million dollars in scholarship offers — a testament to their hard work and bright futures.
The ceremony continued with several prestigious recognitions, including the Triple C Award, NYS Comptroller Award, Civic Ambassador Award, and Character Awards, each celebrating leadership, community service, and outstanding personal character.
Academic honors followed, with awards for Presidential Excellence, Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, and Principal’s Honor Roll, recognizing students with top academic achievement throughout the year. Students with the Highest Academic Averages were also recognized.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to the already-announced Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2025, who were celebrated for their outstanding academic records and leadership.
